lorne a. maull

rancher and story teller at the 7M Running bar

Lorne and his wife Diane have retired to DeWinton, Alberta, to be near their families. They have known each other for over 55 years, and are still the best of friends. Of course they still have horses, and a dog. Lorne likes to busy himself with many exquisite wood working projects, made from vintage machinery, or other fine woods. He is active in a writers group, and brings much humor, and enthusiasm to the group.

Lorne was born and raised during the depression, on an isolated small farm on the Canadian Prairies. He rode horse back to a one-room school for nine years until the school closed. Becoming a part of the work force at a very early age, he saw much of the heritage farming, and hardships on a very personal level.

Lorne attended the Vermilion School of Agriculture, and later bought a quarter of land, started ranching, and growing this enterprise until it was one of the largest in the area. He always said that he had a short attention span. Lorne was always trying something new, or better to increase production, or to make work easier. He has been a great steward of the land.

Lorne is an excellent stockman, and over the years has had many special saddle horses and stock dogs which were well trained, and loyal to their dedicated master. He always said he had many friends, a lot of whom were four legged. Many a tear was shed at the loss of some of his favourite animal friends.

Lorne has always been a mover and shaker in the Community as well as in various agricultural organizations and 4-H.  Lorne is gifted with a sense of humor, which he brings into his many….. hilarious stories of his experiences. He met many real life characters, who became his friends, and he was always eager to hear their stories. It is interesting to ride along with him to meet some of the people that he has known, but most of all to hear about the happenings, at and around the 7 M Running Bar.
